Dunki is a 2023 Indian Hindi comedy-drama directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The movie has borrowed its concept from the illegal immigration practice known as “donkey flights.” Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, and Boman Irani star in this film which Red Chillies Entertainment, Jio Studios, and Rajkumar Hirani Films produced. The principal photography commenced in April 2022 covering different locations such as Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kashmir, Budapest, London, and Jeddah Neom ending in late April 2023. Pritam and Shekhar Ravjiani handle music duties while C. K. Muraleedharan Manush Nandan and Amit Roy serve as cinematographers with editing done by Rajkumar Hirani who also directed it. It came out worldwide on December 21, 2023, along with receiving positive reviews for its performances as well as screenplay direction cinematography music, etc. It earned over ₹470 crore (US$59 million) at the box office on a budget of ₹120 crore (US$15 million), making it fifth fifth-highest-grossing Hindi movie to date and eighth eighth-highest-grossing Indian movie in 2023. The movie had nine nominations including Best Supporting Actor for Vicky Kaushal at the 69th Filmfare Awards.
Storyline of Dunki movie
Manu Randhawa, an old man in 2020, escapes from the hospital in London and wants to get back to India through the Dunki route due to visa challenges with the help of a lawyer specializing in immigration matters by the name of Puru Patel.
Back in 1995: Manu together with her friends Buggu and Balli dreams about going to London for greener pastures. Together with Hardy Singh Dhillon, a former army officer, they set out to reach London via the Dunki Route where they faced many hurdles as well as losses.
They arrive at their destination only to find the harsh reality of being illegal immigrants; hence, life becomes hard for them. As a result of this, she gets involved in what she never wished for which was a sham marriage for British citizenship that led to conflicts and eventually arresting them after some time.
Currently, Manu’s health worsens making her wish that she could return home. In accompaniment with Hardy, they are taken back to India again. While coming towards Laltu once again Manu dies leaving Hardy devastated.
Some months later an agent proposes another opportunity to reach London through the Dunki route towards Hardy and his friends Balli and Buggu. They deny it and walk away thereby signifying their acceptance of reality and shifting from their earlier ambitions.
The cast of Dunki Movie
Mukesh Chhabra, who is a famous Indian casting director, oversaw the role of the casting director. The lead female actor acted alongside Khan for the first time this year after featuring in a 2019 film called Badla which is produced by Khan’s company; Red Chillies Entertainment. It was also revealed that Vicky Kaushal played an important character in the movie and Boman Irani became part of the star cast in October 2022.
Dunki Movie Songs
Aman Pant was a collaborator on the background score while Pritam and Shekhar Ravjiani joined hands to write Dunki’s soundtrack. The introduction of singles began with “Lutt Putt Gaya” on November 22, 2023, then “Nikle The Kabhi Hum Ghar Se” on December 1, 2023, later “O Maahi” on December 11, 2023, and finally “Banda” on December 18, 2023. On December 18, 2023, T-Series released the full album of eight songs for the soundtrack.
